Many roads lead to Castle Mauterndorf

The municipality of Mauterndorf is connected to the Postbus route network. The journey from the city of Salzburg by train to Radstadt and then by Postbus to Mauterndorf takes around two and a half hours. Coming from the south, Tamsweg has the nearest train station. Option 1 "Highway with vignette": The village of Mauterndorf can be reached via the Tauernautobahn (A 10) , exit St. Michael. Then continue on the B 99 to Mauterndorf. Please note that vignettes are compulsory for all highways in Austria. In addition, a toll must be paid for the Tauern Tunnel (between Flachauwinkel-Süd and Zederhaus) coming from the north and for the Katschberg Tunnel (between Rennweg and St. Michael) coming from the south. Sufficient free parking is available for coaches.

Option 2 "Federal highway without vignette": If you don't want to buy a vignette, you can reach the Mauterndorf castle experience via the following routes:

• From the north (Salzburg City): Salzachtal-Bundesstraße (B 159) to Bischofshofen, continue on the B 99 to Radstadt via Obertauern into Lungau. (approx. 90 minutes)
• From the west (Zell am See): Pinzgauer Straße (B 311) from Zell am See to Bischofshofen, continue on the Katschberg Straße (B 99) to Radstadt via Obertauern into Lungau. (approx. 95 minutes)
• From the south (Carinthia): From Spittal an der Drau via Katschberg Straße (B 99) via Gmünd, Rennweg, St. Michael to Mauterndorf. (approx. 40 minutes)
• From the east (Styria): From Murau on the Murtal-Bundesstraße (B 96) to Tamsweg, continue on the Turracher Bundesstraße (B 95) to Mauterndorf. (approx. 40 minutes)

The nearest airport is in the city of Salzburg. It is the second largest airport in Austria and is located directly at the Salzburg-Munich-Vienna-Villach highway intersection. It has excellent scheduled connections to major European cities and perfect links to the hubs of Frankfurt, Vienna, London and Zurich. You can reach the village of Mauterndorf in around 90 minutes by rental car or cab via the Tauern highway.
