The opening hours of Castle Mauterndorf 2025
Castle Mauterndorf is a medieval fortified and toll castle in the middle of the beautiful mountain landscape of Salzburg's Lungau region. Traders, merchants and travelers once had to pay their tolls here to be allowed to pass through with their goods. Today, many centuries later, Castle Mauterndorf is a tourist attraction in Salzburger Land. For this reason, we try to make the medieval walls as accessible as possible for people with special needs. However, due to the historical construction, this is only possible to a limited extent.
Access to the north entrance is possible for people with walking disabilities. Please register in advance by telephone on+43 6472 74 26so that we can open the barrier for you.
Barrier-free access to the castle is possible via the north parking lot.
Please note that there are many steps and uneven surfaces at Castle Mauterndorf, which make accessibility difficult. The exhibition rooms, defense tower, Lungau Landscape Museum and castle tavern are not barrier-free.
Unfortunately, there are no wheelchair-accessible toilets available.
In good weather, various seating options are available in the castle courtyard. In bad weather, visitors have the option of using the tablets in the toll booth or in the entrance area.
Tablets with a video guide through the indoor areas are available at the checkout.
You will receive tablets with a video guide in sign language at the checkout.
Assistance dogs are allowed on a leash at Castle Mauterndorf.
People with a disability of 50% or more receive reduced admission including one accompanying person on presentation of a disability pass.
